Methodology

1. Waste Collection: Implement a system to collect and sort leather waste, ensuring it is suitable for upcycling.

  • Gather leather waste: Collect all the leather scraps and offcuts generated in your factory. These could be remnants from the production process, damaged pieces, or excess materials that are no longer suitable for the original intended purpose.
  • Sort and assess: Sort the leather waste based on their sizes, shapes, and conditions. Assess which pieces can be utilized effectively for upcycling projects. Discard any pieces that are too small or severely damaged beyond usability.
  • Select upcycling projects: Identify specific upcycling projects that can make use of the collected leather waste. Some potential ideas include creating leather keychains, wallets, coasters, bookmarks, or small pouches.
  • Design and cut: Plan the design and dimensions for the chosen upcycling project. Use templates or create your own patterns to cut the leather scraps into the desired shapes. Ensure that you utilize the available leather efficiently to minimize waste further.
  • Assemble and finish: Follow the appropriate assembly process for the chosen project. This may involve stitching, gluing, or combining leather pieces using appropriate techniques and tools. Pay attention to finishing details, such as adding closures, embellishments, or decorative stitching.
  • Quality check: Inspect the upcycled items for quality, ensuring that they meet the desired standards. Make any necessary adjustments or refinements to improve the final product's appearance and durability.
  • Promote and distribute: Showcase the upcycled leather items within your factory or through various marketing channels. Encourage employees and customers to support sustainable practices by purchasing these unique, eco-friendly products.

2. Material Sorting and Preparation: Sort the collected waste based on quality and type of leather. Clean and prepare the materials for further processing.

3. Design and Production: Collaborate with skilled designers to create innovative designs for wallets and belts, utilizing the repurposed leather waste. Maintain a focus on craftsmanship and quality throughout the production process.

4. Marketing and Distribution: Develop a marketing strategy that highlights the sustainability aspect of our products, targeting customers who value eco-friendly and ethically produced goods. Establish partnerships with local retailers and explore online sales channels for distribution.
